The Federation of Asia-Pacific Retailers Associations (FAPRA) was founded in 1989. It has implemented its activities and developed itself with the aim of discussing issues shared in the region, promote information exchange and friendship, thereby contributing to the development of commerce, the improvement of retailers' status and the improvement of citizens' lives in the region.
Tan Sri William Heng Jem Cheng, born in 1943, is Executive Chairman of the Lion Group of Companies with interests in retail, property development, steel, plantation and mining. The Group has operations in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, USA and Mexico.
Since 1992, the Group has ventured into China with operations in the retail (China Parkson) and property businesses.
The Lion Group has four public listed companies in Malaysia, two in Singapore and one in Hong Kong. It has an annual turnover of approximately RM16 billion and provides employment for about 20,000 people.
Tan Sri William Cheng is the Life President of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia as well as the Life President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. He is also President of Malaysia Steel Association (MSA) and Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA).
He was conferred the title of
Tan Sri by DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Dipertuan Agong Malaysia in 1991 for his contribution towards economic activities in the country. On 1st February 2013, he was conferred the title of
Datuk Seri Utama by DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Dipertuan Agong Malaysia in conjunction with Wilayah Day celebration.
